First day of anti-seizure meds

Need I say more? lol its the drunk D!

D's neuro appt update

We had our neuro visit last Monday at Childrens with Dr Zinser.
I was actually pretty impressed, we didn't have to wait a long time, and Dr Zinser treated me with a good amount of respect, and didn't talk down to me...which I HATE...lol

So anyway...they did testing on D (there was a student in there too which really helped since D has NO tolerance for having to wait while mommy talks to the doc...LOL).

The doc said that really the Agenesis stuff isn't what is causing the main problems in D's case. He said its the heterotopia which is like where part of the gray matter didn't form in the right spot so its whats causing the seizure activity. He said in a lot of cases, they just go in and remove those surgically, since they aren't doing him any good, but since D's is fairly large, he is going to put him on anti-seizure meds to see if that helps him at all. And we go back in 4 months to get re-evaluated.

He did say straight out that D will prolly never be on par with other kids (fwiw, I LOVED that he was very straight forward), BUT he said he'll prolly be at about 85-90%. So that was actually reassuring to me...lol

All in all, obviously I was kinda freaked about surgery, but we'll take that as it comes, but overall I feel pretty upbeat about everything. The seizure meds might even calm him some, wowwww??? LOL I just don't want him becoming lethargic but the doc said there aren't any major side effects (won't affect his sleeping or eating, etc). He just might be a little extra sleepy for a couple of weeks (which might be a good thing at naptime...lol). The med he's being put on is Trileptal.

Thats about it, D had bloodwork done too...and y'all...this kid is SO my child. He freaked when she put the needle in, but as SOON as she showed him the blood filling up the tube, he was fascinated. Thats exactly how I am. lol

First Tball game!

D had his first tball game on Saturday! At 8am...oy!
It went well, D did good when he was batting and running bases, because he follows routine well, so he knew to stay on the base til someone told him to run to the next! lol
Outfielding was another story...I really had to talk him through that time (one parent was allowed on the field per child on defense)...it was frustrating but he worked it out just fine, and while it was tiring, I was pleased with how it went!!

Here's pics...keep in mind, D broke my camera...blah, so these are from an outdoor disposable one til I get mine fixed or get a new one...

D had an EEG

Last tuesday was D's eeg at Children's. It was to monitor his brain activity and see if there are any signs of seizures. I do not have the results yet, but let me say how traumatic that was!

It started out with a midnight IHOP run with some friends of ours. D was up til at least 1am, and I woke him up at 6ish to go to school. He did fine at school, they said. But was definitely exhausted. He did "ok" while the electrodes were being put on, but I had to talk him down every few minutes. And finally D melted DOWN after the electrodes were on his head and I ended up having to restrain him for over an HOUR til he passed out asleep because he would NOT leave his hands off his head! I felt like the worst mom ever! (Please no comments about that, I already feel horrible!)

Fortunately, the tech thinks she got a good sleep reading, we let him sleep for 30 minutes, and then woke him up to do the strobe light, etc.

But OMG the three days at school since then have been ROUGH. Three yellow days in a row! And I barely tolerate one! I'm so praying that it was just his schedule disruption. We had a busy weekend but I'll get in to that in a newer post.

I really hope we get results soon! Oh yeah...and D broke my camera! So I had to take pics of the IHOP run and the EEG with a disposable camera and OMG NONE of them turned out!!!! I was just heartbroken!!! *sigh*

Happy Labor Day!

Greetings and Happy Labor Day to everyone! I hope you all had a restful weekend. Today we went to a get together at a fellow DFWAM Mom's house in Mckinney. We had a great time! The kids played outside, played in the sprinkler, and there were some skirmishes, but overall I think they all did pretty good.

With her permission to share...Krisinda took the most AWESOME picture of D!!!!

She also took this one of the boys...I had to share...thanks Krisinda!

First Tball Practice!

D was the first tball practice for D! I don't think ALL the kids were there since it was an informal one, but there were still 7 or 8, I think...which is a LOT of 3 year olds...

He didn't do just AWESOME...he hadn't had a nap, so he wore out quickly, but he did try to hit the ball off the tee a few times...ran to first base a couple of times, tried throwing the ball. He really didn't do that bad, but did tend to wander a lot...LOL at one point he went and laid down on the quilt that the coach's wife had laid out for HER little kids...he just laid there and talked to her daughter...it was funny.

Anyway, here's pics!

I see you, Mommy!

Posing when we first got there
